What is the average top speed in Florida?

Speed is often associated with car accidents, sometimes causing them directly and sometimes making accidents more dangerous for those involved, even if they would have happened at slower speeds. So, with that in mind, what is the average top speed in Florida, when looking only at speed limits?

A study done by found that the average allowed speed in Florida is 68 miles per hour. The study is simple, just looking at the speed limits across the state, from 70 miles per hour on the interstate to 25 miles per hour in downtown areas.Overall, Florida ranks in the middle of the pack.

Larger states tend to have the highest speeds. In some cases, this is because they have toll roads and expressways with the highest speed limits in the nation. To a large degree, though, it is because these bigger states have a smaller percentage of city streets, with their lower limits. They also have larger open areas with expressways and other high-speed roads.

For example, Texas has an average speed of 78 miles per hour. It has miles and miles of interstate, and it has a toll road with a limit of 85 miles per hour. That's the highest speed limit in the country.

Of course, this study merely looks at the average allowable speed and not the speed that people actually drive. This varies dramatically, especially when aggressive drivers are factored into the equation. If you were injured in an accident caused by excessive speed and reckless driving, you may be able to seek compensation. It's wise to seek legal advice on your options.
